“ Liposuction is the best, minimally invasive body sculpting procedure which contours and reshapes almost any part of the body “.
It is also the most commonly performed cosmetic surgical procedure. The popularity comes with this being not just safe and quick but provides the best value for your buck.
As the name suggests, the suction device removes fat from unwanted areas to slim or contour your body parts. Some pockets of fat are resistant to go away even with stringent exercise, workout or diet regimes. Virtually any area of this accumulated fat can be treated with Liposuction to give you more youthful look.
|Surgical time||1- 3 hrs ( depending on areas to liposuck )|
|Hospital stay||Day only ( General / Tumescent Anaesthesia)|
|Back to work||1-2 wks|
|Final outcome||3 to 6 mnts depending on how extensive liposuction was done.|
|Cost||Depends on how many areas are to be treated. Photos will help us to know what you are after|
Upload 3 Photos of each area treated
We recommend a face to face ( VIDEO / IN PERSON) consultation before the procedure to understand the procedure details and finalise the quote .
Tumescent liposuction is the most common technique used. Your surgeon injects a sterile solution( tumescent fluid) into the area where the fat is to be removed. The solution contains
Ultrasound– assisted liposuction, or UAL, uses senergy of sound waves your skin to rupture the cell walls of the fat. This liquefies the fat so it can be suctioned out.
Laser-assisted liposuction, or SmartLipo, uses a laser to produce a burst of energy to liquefy the fat.
There is a new energy device launched every 2 years that claims that it is better than the other in some or the other way. Other than making it easy for the surgeon, it doesn’t offer any benefit for the actual procedure. Actual procedure is to break the fat with a device and suck it with vacuum
Energy devices help reduce surgical time by breaking the fat faster in their own defined way, reducing surgeon fatigue. All instruments used being blunt , don’t add to the complications, except some recent reports of skin damage by VASER liposuction.
No matter what you read and hear in meadia and advertisements , the cold truth, that would save you a lot of money and repeated disappointment, is that there are currently NO methods / NO techniques / NO procedures and NO treatments whose results are close or much less equivalent to those of liposuction.
There are many other energy based , non invasive equipment like coolsculpting , ultrasound cavitation etc.which claim to be slimming devices. They however have a limited effect in select patients only. There is much marketing devoted to them than actual slimming.
Liposuction is the most predictable and cost effective way for excess fat removal.
Liposuction is more commonly done as an adjunct procedure with many cosmetic surgical procedures.
Adjunct procedure – Liposuction is used in combination with other procedures to fine tune the contours for better outcomes. It is usually done towards the end of those procedures.
Breast reduction , tummy tuck, facelift, brazilian butt lift, arm reductions and many other procedures need liposuction as an adjunct.
Common reasons for its use are –
Primary procedure – Many people choose to have liposuction as a sole procedure to take away unwanted fat.
Regardless of the indication, the procedure in itself still remains the same. Its is one of the safest procedures in cosmetic surgery as it doesn’t use sharp instruments under the skin
Your Liposuction will be done in an accredited facility as per the NSW Medical Board policies. We do not like to cut corners to offer better quotes. We also do not want to compromise our quality and patient safety to match quotes.
Dr Mahadik will grade-mark the areas of your body that will be treated. He may also take photos to use later for before-and-after comparisons.
Make sure to have someone drive you home after the procedure as it is a hospital requirement.
Tiny 3-5 mm incisions ( cuts) are made at strategic locations around the area to be liposucked. Tumescent solution is injected which makes the procedure safe, bloodless and painfree by numbing the area after the procedure. The salt in the solution helps breaking the fat cells.
All Liposuction techniques have one thing in common , “ Breaking fat with a thin tube, called cannula and sucking it out with a vaccum pump “.
We believe that newer Power or Laser assisted Liposuction equipment have made life easier for the surgeons. The only major benefit passed on to the patient is the reduced operative time. Dr Mahadik is uses similar Power Assisted Liposuction. The system has various size cannulas for different areas of the body. Fine size small cannulas are used to feather out the edges for better curves. This gives a much smoother contour than conventional techniques without the risks of ‘burning’ with VASER Liposuction.
The tiny cuts are sealed with dissolving internal stitches. Premeasured, snug-fit compression garment is applied to the areas immediately after the procedure.
Going home-most patients go home the same day Strong pain relief tablets- take care of the moderate
pain and discomfort for the first week.
Compression garment – is to be used full time for the first 4 wks. They help achieve a firm and flat contour by helping the skin to shrink better.
Swelling- will peak in the first week and gradually subsides thereafter. 85% of it disappears by 3-4 months and the rest may take upto 6-9 months
Activity – Work ( office type) can be resumed after 1 week.
Exercise ( non strenuous) after 2 wks and normal to strenuous activity after 6 wks.
|Drains||They are temporarily placed under your tummy to remove excess fluid and blood . Drains usually come out before you go home or till day 5 when we get u back to check you|
|Dressings||on the suture line stays intact and dry for 1 week before our nurse sees you for a check.|
|Bent position||Your bed will keep you in a bent position for a few days. This helps a better wound healing and reduces pain.|
|Stitches||All stitches at the horizontal incision are dissolving and don’t need to come out . Belly button stitches come out when our nurse sees you|
|Pain , Discomfort and Swelling||is normal for a week which we try to minimise with pain relief.|
|Walking||may be uncomfortable for a week , but we encourage you to walk slowly with support. This helps your overall recovery. You will need a support person who stays with you for help for 3 wks|
|Food||Plenty of water and small portions of meals|
|Sleep||Strictly on the back with 2 pillow under your knees for 2 wks|
|Normal work||after 4 wks|
All surgeries come with some risk. With safer techniques, better training and updated regulations the benefits outweigh the risks. However, you should understand that the risks mentioned do exist.
Specific risks for Liposuction –
General risks –
Myth 1– Liposuction gets rid of Cellulite.
You will be disappointed if you are unaware that Liposuction only takes away fat. Cellulite isn’t just fat.
Myth 2– I can loose some weight.
Liposuction is a sculpting procedure and not a weight reducing one . You can have 4-5 litres of fat sucked out with an amazing contoured shape. But you hardly loose any weight.
It’s the pant size you are happy about that the weight scale.
Myth 3 – Fat dissolving non invasive machines give same results .
This is never the case. There is nothing better than physical removal of fat cells that Liposuction achieves.
All other non invasive methods and equipment help the medical equipment industry more than you.
Myth 4– It’s a permanent solution for my fat deposits
Yes and No !
Yes because, removal of the fat cells is the most certain way you don’t grow them again
But since you cant take all fat out, the remaining fat cells in the body can swell if you don’t maintain your diet , exercise and fitness.
Myth 5 – It is always done under Local Anaesthetic
Yes and No !
NSW Medical Board have set regulations regarding the amount of fat which can be safely removed under local anaesthetic (Tumescent Anaesthesia).
Depending on areas are to be treated and the desired look, the procedure might need Local / General anaesthesia. General anaesthesia increases hospital and anaesthetist cost.
Since its time efficient to treat multiple areas at one go, it definitely helps reduce cost. More importantly, sculpting 2-3 adjacent areas together, eg. mid body ( lower tummy, flanks and upper thighs ) together gives a much better contour than doing isolated areas.
Liposuction is a very traumatic procedure for the tissues. Major swelling takes 2-3 months to settle while the minor swelling takes a further 3-6 months .
I am afraid, this isn’t a comparison at all. Coolsculpting, ultrasound cavitation and many other energy based, non invasive equipment have a limited effect in select patients only. There is much marketing devoted to them than actual slimming.
Liposuction is the most predictable and cost effective way for excess fat removal.
Despite everything you read and hear, the painful cold truth, that would save you a lot of money and recurrent disappointment, is that there are currently NO methods / NO techniques / NO procedures and NO treatments whose RESULTS ARE CLOSE OR MUCH LESS EQUIVALENT to those of LIPOSUCTION.
Liposuction is primary a sculpting procedure rather than a weight reducing one. You would still loose some weight ( approx. 2 pounds / 1000cc fat removed ) You can safely remove 5-7 pounds of fat , which might not reflect very well on the scale
Yes it is normal till about 4-6 months . Healing happens with protein. It gets stiff and forms hard clupms as it heals. The clumps of protein and blood ,slowly disintegrates over 6 mnts.
Although lumps and mumps are not uncommon, sometimes you may get uneven draping of skin causing surface irregularities or an overdone area that can form a crater. Please consult your surgeon it it stays for more than 9 months for an opinion.
A lot of Tumescent Solution is injected before liposucking fat, part of which wants to come out over the next few days.
In small to moderate Liposuctions , Dr Mahadik likes to close the tiny cuts in so there is no seepage of drain fluid.
In larger volumes , cuts are left open and dressings are to be replaced twice a day at home.
No drains are kept in the area.
Great question . Everyone should ask this before his / her procedure. Skin redraping after procedure maybe unpredictable.
The secret is simple – it lies in a proper patient selection. We follow a strict protocol when it comes to offering liposuction as opposed to mini tummy tuck / tummy tuck.
Younger people, close to their ideal body weight have good skin shrinkage. People who have multiple pregnancies, older subset, loose skin tone will not be happy with the sagged skin .
Large Mons correction has 2 elemets to fix . Fat can be taken care by Liposuction Excess skin at that area is notorious to not drape well causing a sag. So we recommend a wedge excision of skin which adds 20 min to the procedure time .
Small to moderate mons corrections could be achieved by Liposuction alaone. The best bet is to let your surgeon examine your skin tone and fat volume.
Facial Liposuction is indicated for saggy jowls and necks. Cheek prominences are primarily due to high malar bone or muscle.
We do not advocate Liposuction for cheeks.
Love Handles – it’s the best procedure for them with maximum satisfaction.
